Welcome to my ramblings on racetrack history, research, and everything in between. My name is Cady Coulardot. I’ve never written an official blog before so bear with me while I figure this out as I go.

Recently, I lost my job and found myself feeling a little lost in the chaos of life. I have so many things I want to do career-wise, whether that’s continuing as a social media manager or fully leaning into professional photography. One project that’s been quietly living in the back of my mind for a long time is writing a book about the French racehorse Épinard. I once wrote a short piece about him and quickly realized there was so much more to his story than I could fit into a few pages. That’s where this blog comes in. This space is where I’ll share my research, my discoveries, and the process of piecing together his life as I work toward turning it into a book.

We all have a story—so here’s mine.

I was born in northern Indiana, in a small town called Bluffton. I’ve always loved animals and was constantly stealing my mom’s 35mm film camera. Horses, especially, had my heart. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that love would follow me through my entire adolescence and straight into adulthood.

In 2017, my parents bought their first racehorse, and I guess you could say the rest is history. I started working on the racetrack while I was still in college, taking photos for the track photographer. When COVID hit during my junior year and everything went online, I packed up and ran off to Oaklawn Park. I tend to fall in love easily—but one thing that’s never faded is my love for fast horses.

After graduating from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Science in Equine Business and a minor in Marketing, I decided to fully invest my life in racing. I’ve worked on the racetrack since 2018 and have been involved in just about every part of our operation—from helping trainers on race days to caring for our horses firsthand. Along the way, I’ve also built a career as a professional equine photographer, shooting privately for owners and trainers across the industry.

At the heart of it all, I care deeply about this sport and the people and horses in it. I’m passionate about making sure racing continues for future generations, and I’m proud to help carry on the legacy of Coulardot Racing.

Till next time,

Cady
